So we are nearly into April and not that far away from summer and the lighter evenings.
‘Che fantasticoweekend aLenham’ Well didn’t the committee look fab in their Italian Gondala outfits at Lenham. I hope that those of you in the 28 vans that attended had a good time and enjoyed the Italian nibbles, I know I enjoyed the weekend. It was great to see so many there and everyone chatting and enjoying themselves. There were so many members helping the committee out at the rally, and for me this is what its all about, Kent working together to achieve a wonderfull weekend for all.
At the beginning of March Debbie and Mike were first time hosts at Dover and what a fabulous job they did. We had our local knowledge tested Friday night with a quiz about Kent…so much I didn’t know!! Onto to Saturday where we had a lovely walk round the sites of Dover and the weather was kind to us, till it was time to finish. What a shame we had to go into the Rack Of Ale, a micro pub, to get out of the rain. Then in the evening hidden paper construction skills came to the fore and I don’t want to know what you guys have done with balloons in the past to create the wonderful animals that were produced to live in the paper structures…. At the End of March we were invited to Bexhill by the Surrey group for the three counties Easter rally. Wow what a weekend despite a visit from hurricane Katie… Surrey committee along with Peter and Teresa did a fab job of hosting. If you have a look at Facebook there are some great pictures and videos of the weekend. Kent members did themselves proud and managed to win the ‘Turkey’ trophy this year so thanks to you all for your participation. Also I‘d like to thank those from other groups who ‘donated’ points to Kent.
So it’s up to us next year to give the Three Counties an even better Easter rally which will be down in Broadstairs at Charles Dickens School. This is a fab venue with excellent facilities including showers. Please watch the web and Facebook for information on this later in the year. In the meantime I’ll be polishing the trophy as it’ll be staying in Kent next year….
We are still looking for hosts for just two rallies this year. The first is at Headcorn for the weekend 5th to 7th August and the rally at Faversham in November. Unfortunately if we don’t get hosts for either of these venues the committee will have no choice but to cancel them. If you feel you would like to help out but don’t feel able to host a whole rally please come and have a chat with me and we can talk about how you can help us. It’s not just a cliché but the more you put in the more you get out. If we can get enough of you to do a small bit each then the chances are we could cover both of these rallies. For example can you bring down the coffee equipment and make coffee, maybe do a van quiz or book in? Our next Kent rally will be at Sandwich for the Mayday bank holiday weekend, this is a three counties rally and the hosts have lots planned. All information including prices will be on the web soon. It’ll be much cheaper to stay with us than booking into a commercial site for this weekend. To stay at the commercial site in Sandwich it would cost you £95 for the three nights!!! If you haven’t used it yet why not make use of the £5 off voucher all Kent members received which will reduce the cost of a Kent hosted rally at this weekend.
Well I can’t believe it’s February already, where did January go? It seems like only yesterday we were toasting in the New Year. By now you should all have received your Kent Rally programme for 2016 and you’ll see we have some cracking rallies this year. You will also have had included a small gift as a token of our appreciation from the Kent committee for supporting Kent group this year. Hopefully you’ll be able to make use of the £5 off voucher all Kent members received which will reduce the cost of a Kent hosted rally. Our next Rally is at Lenham for our Valentines Rally, we have lots going on this weekend including an Italian themed evening with olives, dipping oil, fresh bread and wine with soft lighting and romantic music. Although there will also be music for the non-romantics out there - Tony….say no more!! It’s a school venue with use of the hall at certain times during the day and during the evening, all hard standing parking. Start time is 5.30pm Friday. The school is a very short level walk to the village center with its shops and pubs. Thanks to Mel and Phil for volunteering to do the raffle at our Valentines meet, Roger and Sue for doing Coffee Saturday and Sunday and Sheena for doing the van quiz. If you feel you would like to help out but don’t feel able to host a whole rally please come and have a chat with me and we can talk about how you can help us. It’s not just a cliché but the more you put in the more you get out.
Although we are only just into 2016 we are already busy looking at venues for 2017 so if you have any ideas or suggestions please speak to Jill our rally officer or any member of the committee. That just leaves me to finish off with wishing you all the Best for 2016, safe travels and hope to see you at Lenham. Julie
December 2015 Blog Well what a few weeks it’s been since the AGM! Thanks to all of you for your support that you have shown both myself and the new committee as we settle into our new roles. It’s been great to see many of you at recent rallies.
What a fab weekend we had at Sandwich, such a great venue with so much to do in and around the area during the day. Then in the evening the horses came out to play, I think George and Linda eventually got them back in the stables as they misbehaved a bit over the evening!!
Our Christmas party weekend at Dover was another success for Kent, we had a great turn out with a fab Christmas lunch at a local restaurant. Followed by party night with the group Fair Isle. This rally for me is what Kent is all about at the moment, great hosting by Chris and Maria, a truly amazing raffle by Alan and Michael, I don’t think there were many shops left in Dover that hadn’t contributed! The kids enjoying the weekend, they were all so well behaved at the restaurant and had a fun time Saturday evening nibbling their way through selection boxes and then on Sunday they ran their own raffle having bought all their own prizes, what great children and grandchildren we have.
I hope that you’ll be able to join me at our New Year meet which starts at 3pm on the 30th December at Abbey School in Faversham. This will be one you will not want to miss…so much going on and all for the maximum cost of £30 for the three nights for two adults. Also why not ask the family or friends along for New Year’s Eve to join in the celebrations.
It’s great that we have hosts for all bar one rally next year, and also have volunteers helping us out at other rallies, thanks to Mel and Phil for volunteering to do the raffle at our Valentines meet. Talking of valentines put a date in your 2016 diaries to come and see us at Lenham, we will be putting on a great weekend with an Italian theme for all you romantics out there. If like me you don’t have a romantic other half please come along anyway as we will be have lots of other stuff going on.
That just leaves me to wish you all a very merry Christmas and safe travels where ever you or your family may be heading.
Welcome Blog October 2015 I’d like to start my first chairman's chat by thanking both the previous chairman, Digger Graves and rally officer Sheena Karim for all their work over the previous five years, they will both be missed.
For those of you who don’t know me I have been coming to the Kent group for about 20 years since I meet Tony my husband. Starting off in a pup tent with Tony’s parents. I took to the camping lifestyle like a duck to water and we immediately started saving for our own motorhome. We started off in a Toyota Hiace and joined the club in our own right, then had to move over to a caravan for a few years as we couldn’t afford a motorhome and a car. More recently we’ve been lucky enough to have three motorhomes, a Rapido, an Autotrail Chieftain and now a Vantage van conversion. So have gone full circle in van sizes!
Over the years I have been a committee wife, whilst Tony held a number of committee posts and then joined the committee my self after a conversation one evening with Sheena, where I think wine may have been involved!!
I am really lucky as a new chairman, as Kent has a great committee this year, with new faces and some old ones so a great balance of new ideas and experience.
However this is your club and those of us on committee are only voted there to run the club according to how you the members would like us to. This year I want to reiterate we really want to hear your ideas and suggestions on how we can move the club forward. Its been great this weekend as a couple of future hosts have already approached us and suggested a couple of things they thought should be done, which we discussed at our first meeting and agreed we would adopt.
For anyone who hasn’t rallied before or hasn’t been to a Kent rally for a while please come and see us, you will be made very welcome and I personally look forward to seeing you.
